Fernwood Weekly - Rise Above

Week of April 19, 2026

The exterior of Fernwood Avenue Middle School on a sunny day.

Principal's Message

Dear Fernwood Families,

I want to start by extending a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our Boosterthon fundraiser. Your generosity and enthusiasm are much appreciated. All of your donations go along way in supporting the education and experience of every student in our school. The students will celebrate the end of our fundraiser with Spring Fest on May 13.

It is also wonderful to see our fields and courts buzzing again as Spring Sports are in full swing. Whether it’s baseball, track, or softball, there is something special about the teamwork and school spirit that comes alive this time of year.
  • To our athletes: Good luck and play hard!
  • To our families: Thank you for the countless hours spent on the sidelines supporting our students.

Let’s keep this positive momentum going as we head into a busy and bright spring season.

Sincerely,

Frank Locantora
Principal

Student Achievement

High Brass Day

Fernwood, Alder, and Miller trumpet and French horn students came together for an exciting High Brass Day, a collaborative workshop filled with energy and making music. The day was led by guest clinician Mr. Seals, Band Director at Attales Middle School in Absecon, with performance experience including the Philadelphia Orchestra and Baltimore Symphony.

Students participated in engaging rehearsals and breakout sessions led by Mr. Sutton (Miller) and Mr. Spatz (Fernwood), working with peers from across the district while building their skills.
Thank you to Mrs. Donchey (Alder) for helping organize this event. It was a great day for the arts!
