Fernwood Middle School

The annual Fernwood Spelling Bee took place on Friday January 31st in the auditorium. A total of 75 spellers from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade competed this year. The Bee lasted for twenty-one intense rounds and a total of 334 words

Fernwood's first ever Self eSTEAM Night took place January 30th and was a huge success! Over 80 girls from grades 6-8 attended the event and had a blast participating in a makerspace and then sessions on STEAM and Self Esteem

Fernwood Student is a finalist in the NJMEA All-State Young Composers Competition

Fernwood Robotics Club wins 1st Place Overall Champions and qualifies for the Southern NJ Regional Qualifier

Fernwood Band student Nathanael Gaw was accepted to the All-South Jersey Jazz Band. He was accepted on both trumpet and piano (1st place), and is playing trumpet with the band.

The 2019 Fernwood Science Fair was held on March 7th in the Library. Forty-five students from the 6th grade GT program competed after working on their projects over the past five months. They had to complete and independent scientific investigation, an engineering product, and/or a program or app developed by coding. Students in six categories presented to the judges, who decided category winners as well as the top three overall projects across the entire fair. A special, the People’s Choice Award, was judged by 5th grade GT students who were visiting from the Miller School.

High School Elective Fair - EHTHS students, supervisors, guidance department and teaching staff presented the course selection process, academy information and elective options to all 8th grade students on Thursday March 7th.

Fernwood Band Students Nathaniel Gaw and Sean Cortez were recently named to the 2019 All South Jersey Jr. High Band. Nathaniel was the # 1 Jr. High Trumpet in all of South Jersey while Sean successfully auditioned to be the Timpani Player in the percussion section. The Fernwood Middle School Drama Club performed Alice in Wonderland for our Community on November 16, 17 and 18. The students performance was spectacular.

The Fernwood Field Hockey Team, Coach Shutz and Coach Richard went undefeated and unscored upon in their fall season. Great Job Ladies!
